On August 4, our little town here 45 miles west of Chicago had it's first tornado in 15 years. We were all home, which is a rare site of itself. My son yelled from upstairs, OMG it's a twister! I yelled get your ass down here now! LOL I got the dogs down stairs and all of a sudden this noise that I can't even describe started. Yes the freight train thingy, but it was like the train was on our house!
After just a few minutes, everything got quiet. We lost power but not for long. It was still pouring rain and we hear the door bell ring. Our neighbor is in the pouring rain ringing our doorbell. OMG! Is everything okay!? She has 2 little boys. I started to worry as I ran upstairs to let her in.
She explained that their trampoline was wedged between our huge locus tree and the second level of our house! She was so worried about us! Can you imagine! Here I am so worried about her and her boys and she's worried about us! Now that's a wonderful neighbor. We've been neighbors for 14 years. Anyway, I started laughing! I said that is so Wizard of Oz like! Then I said, hey hunny! maybe we'll get that new roof! He didn't think that was funny.
We've been thinking that we need a new roof for the last couple of years. Our roof is 14 years old. The only reason it's lasted this long is because my husband is very meticulous about maintenance on the house. Which I'm very grateful for! He takes care of a LOT of things with the house. Every fall the last couple of years we ask, will we make it through another winter??? That is the question. Coming up with $8,000 for a new roof was not in the budget.
Well the insurance guy came and a roofing contractor came. They were standing on our roof with my husband having a long conversation. The insurance guy said yes to the new roof! Thank you Universe! Plus new siding! Then my husband decided if they're going to side, now is the time to replace the doors! So an entire remodel to the outside of the house! So we're paying for the doors including the patio doors and a new garage door and the insurance is paying for the roof and siding! We've been talking about doing it for a couple of years, but just could not budget $20 grand! LOL
All of this is happening while I'm in the process of rennovating my office for my new massage business! Yikes! It's been a crazy month! But it's been fun and exciting!
We built this house together 14 years ago. And now we're practically rebuilding it again! It's been a great house and we've decided to stay here for a while.
